2019 Housing & Conservation Conference: Building and Sustaining Healthy Communities
Thursday, October 10, 2019 Barre, Vermont
Visit our website to read more about the conference. Register by October 1!
Housing creation, land conservation and historic preservation are each powerful tools for building and sustaining Vermont’s landscape and communities. Together, their impact is even greater. Please join us to explore how we can make our strategies more effective, our work more inclusive, our messages clearer, and our organizations stronger–all for the benefit of Vermonters now and into the future. The day is designed to offer new insights from experts and foster cross-disciplinary learning and visionary thinking among attendees.
Plenary Session Healthy Communities: Collaboration for Land and People
Combining housing and conservation efforts is unusual but not unique to Vermont. We’ll hear from Dr. Tiffany Manuel, a national expert in systems change, and from Alfred Diaz-Infante and Jeannette Tuitele-Lewis, representing two housing and conservation organizations working in support of a stronger, healthier and more inclusive community in the Salinas Valley of California. The discussion will draw out lessons that can be applied to our own work around the themes of collaboration, diversity, impact, equity, and community engagement.
Conference Sessions The rest of the day will be filled with workshops, discussions, presentations and field trips to provide fresh perspectives around six themes that cross the boundaries between housing and conservation:
Building Inclusive Communities
Conveying Organizational Impact
Rural Community Development
Organizational Health
Responding to Climate Change
Stewardship in Perpetuity
There will be opportunities to network with your peers at lunch time and at the reception following the conference at Barre’s historic Old Labor Hall.
We look forward to convening in October. In the meantime, please save the date and REGISTER by October 1st!
