Upcoming Housing Events

As we get closer to the start of the 2020 Legislative Session, there are a number of public meetings related to housing around the state. All of them are listed on our calendar, but here’s a few coming up in the next couple weeks:

Advisory Council on Child Poverty & Strengthening Families Public Forum – 11/21/2019, 5-7pm Rutland Middle School, Hosted by BROC

The Advisory Council on Child Poverty and Strengthening Families will hold a public forum in Rutland on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to gather public input regarding what are the biggest challenges facing Vermonters in poverty today and what will help Vermonters move out of poverty.

The meeting is hosted by BROC Community Action in Rutland, and will take place in the cafeteria of the Rutland Middle School at 67 Library Ave, Rutland, VT. It will begin with a free meal at 5:00 p.m. and will involve small group discussion and full audience participation. Childcare will be provided at no cost. Senate Economic Development Committee Round Table Discussion on Housing Thursday, December 12, 12:30-2:30pm Rockingham Town Hall Bellows Falls, VT

The Senate Economic Development, Housing & General Affairs Committee will be holding its fourth regional discussion on affordable housing on Thursday, December 12th from 12:30-2:30 in the Rockingham Town Hall in Bellows Falls. The goal of this hearing is to provide ideas to the Committee for possible affordable housing legislation for the 2020 session.

State Treasurer Pearce to Hold Stakeholder Meeting on Housing Monday, December 16th, 1-3pm Governor’s Conference Room Pavilion Building, 4th floor 109 State Street, Montpelier

Act 48 of 2019 (Section 9)  asked the State Treasurer to “evaluate and report on options for funding and financing affordable housing in the State.” This report is due on January 15, 2020. The Act also instructs the Treasurer to coordinate with VHCB, VHFA, ACCD, and the Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition. The Treasurer has met individually with each of these stakeholders, and others, this Fall and our office has also attended the public hearings hosted by the Senate Committee on Economic Development, Housing and General Affairs. Additionally, the Treasurer would like to a hold a meeting of all stakeholders and other interested parties together, here in the Treasurer’s Office, in order to help develop the scope of the recommendation for January.

This meeting will be held on Monday, December 16th, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Governor’s Conference Room on the 4th floor of the Pavilion Building (109 State Street, Montpelier). Please RSVP to Ashlynn R. Doyon (Ashlynn.Doyon@vermont.gov) if you plan on attending.
