Three weeks after storm, Barre shelter is closing

Source: The Burlington FreePress, 6/16/11 “Three weeks after it opened to house people affected by floods, the shelter in the Barre Auditorium is closing. The Red Cross said the closing the shelter at 5 p.m. today. Four shelters opened after a storm on May 26 dropped as much as 5 inches of rain in several central Vermont communities including Barre, Berlin and Montpelier. The Barre shelter. The Red Cross had helped about 170 people at the shelters Washington County the first night. The Barre shelter became the hub after the other shelters closed. According to the Red Cross the residents using the Barre shelter have returned home or found alternate housing.”
