Please consider joining the VAHC and several other Vermont organizations in signing the National Consensus Letter (PDF file) urging Congress to protect and preserve the Housing Credit program in whatever deficit reduction or tax reform plan it considers. The deadline for signing on to the ACTION Campaign’s letter supporting minimum Housing Credit rates has been extended to Friday, November 7.
The ACTION Campaign is calling on Congress to extend the minimum 9 percent Housing Credit rate for new construction and substantial rehabilitation and establish a minimum 4 percent rate for the acquisition of affordable housing before it adjourns for the year.
When Congress returns next week, it will consider extensions of dozens of expired tax provisions, including minimum Housing Credit rates. While we believe the minimum 9 and 4 percent Housing Credit rates should be made permanent, a temporary extension of these provisions for at least two years will still significantly strengthen the Housing Credit at virtually no additional cost to taxpayers. Our sign-on letter urges Congress to make these critical changes as soon as possible.
A full list of ACTION Campaign members will be included in the letter, so if you are already an ACTION Campaign member you do not need to sign on to the letter. However, we encourage you to share the letter with your networks to help us show broad support for minimum Housing Credit rates.
