The Vermont Community Development Association will be holding their fall meeting, community tour, and annual meeting on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 9:00AM to 3:00PM at Blanchard Block in Barre. The theme of the meeting is “Economic Gardening – Growing, Cultivating, and Creating Jobs”. Description is as follows:
In a first-ever combination of the Vermont Community Development Association (VCDA) Fall Conference with a Community Visit, VCDA on Thursday October 23, 2014, is pleased to present “Economic Gardening – Growing, Cultivating and Creating Jobs”. Mayor Lauzon will welcome us to his City of Barre, which has made great strides in the last few years in bringing new life and vitality to its downtown. A guided tour will highlight some of these successes. What is Economic Gardening? It is an entrepreneurial approach to economic development that seeks to grow the local economy from within. Its focus is on growing and nurturing local businesses rather than hunting for “big game” outside the area. The speakers will discuss strategies and implementation tips for bringing this about with concrete examples of how it is being done around the state. The conference will be followed by the VCDA Annual Meeting and all members are invited to stay and participate.
