In the News: Housing Wage Report

As many may know, the 2011 Housing Wage Report was released on April 21, by Vermont Housing Finance Agency. This is an annual report that provides a comprehensive outlook of affordable housing in Vermont. Its data is used to inform many people, advocates and representatives alike, on the critical housing shortage and continued need for affordable housing in Vermont. On Thursday the 21, VHFA held a press release at the State House in the Cedar Creek Room.  To view photo’s and to find out more about the event, click here: Housing report release event One of the major findings from the report is that the average cost of a modest 2bdr apartment in Vermont, $990/month,  has increased by 7% in the past year (from 2009-2010), an astonishing 58% increase since 2000.  A renter would need to earn an hourly wage of at least $19.03 — or $39,595, annually — to afford this.
