“A homeless man was found dead Tuesday afternoon near a makeshift hut that had caught fire in a wooded area of St. Albans, according to police. Richard Poquette, 54, had been burned in the fire, St. Albans Police Chief Gary Taylor wrote in a statement released Wednesday morning. His body was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington for an autopsy. ‘Investigators are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, but all indications appear to support an accidental fire death, which may have started with a burning candle,’ Taylor wrote. St. Albans Police received a call at 4:11 p.m. Tuesday from a person who found Poquette near the hut in the woods about 100 yards west of Domino’s Pizza on North Main Street, according to Taylor. The hut, which had been destroyed by flames, was smoldering when investigators arrived at the scene, Taylor wrote.” Link to Burlington Free Press Article
