Homeless Legislative day a success: additional $500,000 pledged from Gov. Shumlin

The Homeless Memorial Vigil and Legislative Day took place on the first day of the legislative session, January 5, 2011. Homeless Advocates were able to meet with legislatures and foster support for their cause. They were met with many warm responses and words of support for what they do. During the Homeless Vigil, then Gov.-elect Peter Shumlin spoke to the advocates and pledged an additional $500,000 to the mid-year budget to support homeless shelters. This was a huge surprise to all there and we expect to get more details when Governor Shumlin makes his budget address. This funding will be a great help for the struggling homeless shelters in Vermont and was  encouraging news on this cold, snowy winters day. The Burlington Free Press also covered the events of the day at the statehouse, you can read their article here, Advocates rally at Vermont Statehouse.
