Joel Banner Baird – Free Press Staff Writer – June 19, 2012 SHELBURNE — “I think I have some good news for you,” began Tony Pomerleau as he addressed the hushed crowd Tuesday night. “Finally.” The residents of Shelburnewood Mobile Home Park listened carefully. They have been accustomed to waiting. The land beneath their trailers has been for sale or under consideration for development for about seven years. Pomerleau, 95, the patriarch of Burlington-based Pomerleau Real Estate and one of the region’s keystone philanthropists, didn’t promise his audience the moon. “You’ll have street lights, new sewer, new water — so that everyone can take a shower at the same time,” he said. The crowd of about 50 loosened up. For almost a decade, they have faced alternating scenarios of eviction and reprieve. “The minute I get it done, I’ll turn it over to you,” Pomerleau said. “I don’t plan to keep it.” Grins of disbelief spread through the room.
