“The project will provide safe, perpetually affordable housing for low-income elderly. The building design offers many attractive amenities for seniors: A community room for meals and activities, a country kitchen for small family get-togethers, a library, several lounges, a patio and porch. The location is ideal, close to downtown and within walking distance to a shopping center with a grocery, pharmacy and bank. The Vergennes Senior Housing will serve as a hub for the Addison County Meals-on-Wheels program. The community room will host bingo, lunch and exercise events for area seniors. The first floor will also have a medical exam/consulting room available for visiting nurses and physicians to provide for on-site routine medical needs. A Ground Breaking Ceremony was held Monday, June 27th. Construction is well underway and the building is scheduled for completion by the end of 2011.
